If you’re the outdoorsy type, you’ve probably got a few waterproof containers, including one packed with survival gear. While it may seem overkill to bring a canister full of fish hooks and water purification tablets with you on a hike to the woods… well, OK, it is total overkill, but on the other hand, you do never know when things will go horribly wrong. Which is why you probably want the Lifecap, from Exotac.

The Lifecap is pretty much designed to be impossible to destroy or lose. The main canister part is made of carbon fiber, which as we all know is incredibly tough and also incredibly light. Then it’s engineered with a double O-ring seal, which not only makes sure that the elements don’t get in, but also helps ensure this is waterproof in depths exceeding 30 feet.

The caps are aluminum, although you can also get them in titanium if that’s not quite light and durable enough for you. If you’re concerned about damage to the cap, don’t be; the caps are anodized according to military specifications to avoid corrosion problems, such as from salt water. Although that does mean you’re limited in color choice; black, grey, or yellow. Needless to say, everything is bonded with the toughest epoxy they could find.

Finally, to give you an idea of just how thoroughly Exotac has thought about making a canister to take with you on a hike, the threads for the cap are ACME threads. If you’re not a sad standards nerd like me, that doesn’t mean much, but essentially it makes the cap pretty hard to damage to the point where it’s impossible to open. It’s also really hard to machine, which is why you don’t see them that often.

If you want this, you’d better act fast; this is the last production run. They’re available from Exotac for $135.
